Training should start as soon as you bring your puppy / new dog home. You can schedule an appointment to meet with a trainer for a puppy of any age. Although we require that you keep up to date with your dog’s vaccinations in accordance with the vaccine schedule recommended by your veterinarian, it is not necessary for the dog to have completed their puppy series prior to beginning training. Group classes start for puppies 12 weeks of age and older.
Treats, toys, a 4 to 6 foot long nylon or leather leash, and a buckle collar are essential, but we will review some optional training methods and tools with you at the first visit. Some tools that may help you and your canine companion succeed with training include a clicker, no-pull harness, or head halter. It’s also important that you find treats and/or toys that your dog loves! These will help motivate and reward your dog during training.
Dogs should be up to date with rabies and core vaccinations (distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus) in accordance with the recommendations provided by your dog’s veterinarian or the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.
Proof of current Rabies vaccination is required for all in-person and in-home training sessions for dogs 4 months of age or older.
